8th May 2024 (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) - The Aerospace Innovation Centre (AIC) at Universiti Malaya (UM) recently held a meeting with Deftech Aviation at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) & Naval Technology Asia 2024 exhibition. The meeting, hosted at the Deftech booth, aimed to discuss potential collaborations between the university and the industry in the areas of workforce upskilling and research.Representing the AIC(UM) was Professor Dato Ir Dr Mohd Hamdi, who welcomed the opportunity to engage with Deftech Aviation. The meeting was facilitated by Col Ir Mohd Pauzi Deris, Head of Division, Engineering & Technology at DRB-HICOM Defence Technologies (DEFTECH), who expressed enthusiasm for the potential partnership. During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of the university assisting in upskilling the workforce at Deftech Aviation. This collaboration would enable the industry to stay competitive and adapt to the rapidly evolving technological landscape in the aerospace sector. 

Both parties recognized the value of interdisciplinary research in driving innovation and advancing the aerospace industry. The AIC at UM, with its strong research focus, would provide a platform for Deftech Aviation to engage in collaborative research projects, fostering a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing.The meeting marked an important step towards strengthening the ties between the university and industry, with both parties expressing optimism about the potential outcomes of their collaboration.
